Whether you're already qualified or are interested in becoming a nail technician, there are two ways to become a nail technician. Develop your own skills and put in the effort, and you'll become the most successful tech you know. Success will be harder to chase if you take the easy route and cut some corners.
Are you ready to take the right path to becoming a successful nail technician?
Here are our top five qualities that you need to learn or improve upon to become the best of the best, so listen up!
Creativity
Creativity and being a nail tech should go hand in hand.
We’re presuming you’re already a creative person, as what nail technician isn’t, but it’s important that you keep your creative streak going and flowing throughout your career, to keep things fresh.
You should have a good eye for design and be able to provide customised and artistic nail art to every single one of your clients, no matter the brief.
Attention to detail
A top nail technician always pays close attention to detail, ensuring that every nail is perfectly prepped, shaped, and polished.
No mistake gets left unresolved, no matter how small it may be, or how long it may take to fix.
This also includes proper hygiene practices, including the cleaning of your tools and space.
It really is the small things that matter the most and leave a lasting impression!
Technical skills
It’s important as nail techs that we gain expertise in nail shaping, cuticle care, nail art, gel or acrylic nail application, and various manicure and pedicure techniques.
It’s all well and good being good at painting a French tip (and we certainly applaud you if you can do this easily), but if you don’t have the basic application skills perfected, it’s all a waste.
Focus on your technical skills before you move onto nail art, and watch your whole business flourish.
Customer service
Being friendly, approachable, and attentive to your clients and their needs and preferences will help you build relationships and repeat custom.
You want to remain professional at all times, but we’re all human and have bad days, but just remind yourself how hard you work and that letting things slip with your clients is just not worth it.
Continuous learning
To be a successful nail technician, you need to move with the times.
Having a genuine passion for learning and continuously updating your skills is super important, and you can do this by attending workshops, connecting with other nail techs, and completing advanced training, to keep on top of industry trends.
